2 - If you rather prefer to visit the Oldtown by yourself, we can also do the Belém Walking Tour to immerse ourselves in the period of the Discoveries, when Portugal ruled half of the world, having fortresses, and colonies in so many places that you have never imaniged before. Our Tour will start in the Afonso de Albuquerque Square in front of the Presidential Palace and the National Coach Museum, the oldest portuguese Museum that holds the best collection of this type of vehicles in the whole world. (Optional Visit).

After a short walk we'll stop in the Fábrica dos Pastéis de Belém, a world-wide famous pastry where you can taste the custart tarts.

Next, we'll reach the masterpiece of the manueline style architecture. The former monastery is a must-see in the european capital and is a national Pantheon for the greatest Portuguease. Its cloister is considered amongst one of the most beautiful one's in the world and it was inside of it where the documents to enter in the european union were signed

This tour allows you to discover Lisbon, capital of Portugal, colonized by many civilizations along the centuries: Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Moors and finally the Portuguese after 1147. In the main hill of Lisbon, you will find the St. George Castle with its surrounding quarter and Alfama, Lisbon's oldest quarter. This city is linked with the heroic deeds of the Portuguese maritime exploration, in the 15th and 16th centuries. This was the Age of Discoveries and the Golden Era of Portugal, transforming Lisbon into the opulent center of a vast empire. Part of the wealth from these expeditions was used to build magnificent monuments in a unique Portuguese style: the extravagant Manueline architectural style, best typified in the monuments located in the area of Belém.

But Lisbon has more than just monuments! We will visit also the traditional commerce zones of the city, with their 18th-century buildings: the Downtown and the Chiado. In short, our tour includes all the best that Lisbon has to show!

Looking forward to discover Lisbon in one day? Here's our plan:

We’ll start the morning exploring the heart of the city, walking (or driving, it's up to you) through districts such as the Bohemian Bairro Alto, the fancy Chiado, the picturesque Alfama and the vibrant Baixa. We'll stop by great views

After lunch, we’ll be heading to Belém district, from where the Portuguese navigators left, looking for the “New World”. Here we’ll visit Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower, both classified by the Unesco as World Heritage Site, and also the Monument to the Discoveries.

Besides the rich history, Lisbon is also a modern city and the proof of that is the “Expo”, the park where the world exhibition of 1998 happened. Incorporated in the living area of the city, this part also has a huge amount of mordern architecture that can't be missed.
